Paired with their expertise in bioinformatics and machine learning, bitBiome boasts a comprehensive platform for identifying, assessing, and optimizing enzymes for various industrial applications.
As they set their sights on global expansion into the US and European markets,they partnered with ICS to develop a fresh brand identity and website that would embody their pioneering spirit, scientific prowess, and the exciting potential their platform offers.

Discovery
We kicked off with an immersive discovery phase to understand the ins and outs of bitBiome – their offerings, unique selling points, brand personality, and goals. This included:
- Kickoff meeting and brand workshop with key stakeholders to build a working relationship and begin to establish the team’s design and stylistic preferences
- Interviews with bitBiome’s leadership, scientists, and satisfied customers
- Deep dive into bitBiome’s focus industries and competitive landscape to better understand where the rest of the market is and where to find a place to position them
- Development of key user personas: Customers, Scientific Recruits, Investors
These insights formed the foundation of our brand strategy and website architecture, ensuring every decision aligned with the needs of bitBiome’s target audiences.
Visual Identity
With a solid strategy in place, we explored visual directions that would capture bitBiome’s pioneering spirit and the natural source of their platform. We landed on a concept that artfully combines evocative environmental and textural photography with organic 3D visuals of microbes and enzymes. This striking juxtaposition communicates both scientific precision and boundless creative potential, all with nods to various ecosystems that are the source of the bitBiome platform.
We applied this visual language to refine bitBiome’s logo, develop eye-catching graphic elements, and define their core brand colors and fonts. The result is a sophisticated yet approachable aesthetic that truly sets them apart in their industry.
Website
Considering their need to get away from their old site quite quickly, we developed a temporary site. This single page site used a bit of “scrollytelling” along with thoughtful, aspirational copy, and the beginnings of their new visual brand to capture users’ attention and hook them into what was to come.
For the main website, we adopted a user-centric approach to structure the sitemap and prioritize key content. High-impact pages leverage an engaging narrative format to draw visitors in and clearly communicate the value and potential of bitBiome’s platform.
Recognizing the need to appeal to both scientific and business audiences, we struck a careful balance between aspirational messaging and technical details, bolstered by compelling case studies and proof points. The modular design system allows for easy customization of content to cater to different industries and personas.
Developed on WordPress’s Gutenberg editor, the site is structured to empower the bitBiome team to effortlessly update content and add new resources as needed. Rigorous QA across devices and browsers ensured a polished, professional user and admin experience.
A 360º Brand
To allow bitBiome to fully realize their brand across all touchpoints, the following assets were created:
- A digital style guide specifying the design system for web and other marketing assets
- A library of custom 3D and 2D scientific illustrations to visualize their platform and technology
- Branded PowerPoint and document templates for cohesive presentations and collateral
- Comprehensive brand guidelines detailing logo usage, color palette, typography, graphic elements, photography style, and more
The Results
