FINALLY, a web font that can make your website look like an 80′s home movie! I joke, but I’m just waiting for an opportunity to whip this out. As a web developer, discovering Camcorder Font Family is the most excited I’ve been about a font in a long time. You can combine it with HTML5 video clips for a really sweet, retro VHS feel. Skeuomorphism is always in fashion.

Hand Painted Signs by Kenji Nakayama

Hand painted signs are seeing a resurgence in recent years. Local artist Kenji Nakayama is blowing up the scene with what was considered a dying art: the Butera School of Art, where Kenji moved from Japan to study, has suspended its sign painting program. But artists like him, coupled with a growing need for anything handmade, are making hand-painted signage all the rage around town. It’s a beautiful call-back to a time when Main streets were littered with Mom ‘n’ Pops and milk was hand delivered. Aside from painting signs for local shop proprietors, he also paints old shop tools like saws and welding helmets with quirky sayings and pin-striping which he’s shown along side he’s meticulously hand cut stencil paintings in art galleries around the world.

The Wonderful World of Wayne White

A documentary covering the life and work of the ever-prolific Wayne White is hitting theaters this Fall called Beauty is Embarrassing You may remember White for surreal set design and imaginative characters on Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, but have you seen his typographic work? White has most recently created a body of work called Word Paintings that incorporates kitschy typographic structures in idyllic landscape settings.
